The Cyclops Aesthetic
What happens when a mythological outsider becomes a fashion icon?
The Cyclops Aesthetic is a personal AI fashion project exploring character design, identity and storytelling through a contemporary interpretation of the Cyclops.
Meet Aslak: a statuesque Black model, fashion-obsessed and allegedly discovered by Homer in a cocktail bar off the coast of Sicily. His world includes runway shows, imagined campaigns, fashion parties and Cleo, his cat, whose modelling career is becoming inconveniently successful.
The Concept
An AI Creative Director brings vision and inspiration first. The ambition: create trends, not follow them.
I imagined Polyphemus as a tall, expressive model with a strong physical presence. The question guiding the project was simple: what if the features traditionally read as flaws became the very reason he was cast?
Fashion provided the language to explore that shift in perception. Through styling, casting, lighting and attitude, Aslak’s difference becomes his signature.
The project also explores a distinctive approach to the AI character and virtual influencer: developing someone with a recognisable appearance, personal history and point of view.
The Visual Direction
Sculptural pleats frame Aslak’s body. A metallic line emphasises his central eye. Oversized, translucent jewellery adds a raw, tactile quality.
The jewellery draws inspiration from Robert Lee Morris, Alexis Bittar and Completedworks, while the graphic makeup references Michèle Lamy’s distinctive aesthetic.
Aslak moves through speculative fashion worlds inspired by Vivienne Westwood’s rebellious theatricality, Gucci’s eccentric glamour, Prada’s intellectual minimalism and Calvin Klein’s stripped-back sensuality. Each setting introduces a different visual language while preserving his identity.
Building Aslak’s World
I gave Aslak a life beyond the photograph: a childhood in Sicily, an unlikely introduction to fashion through Homer, opinions about love and personal space, and a relationship with Cleo.
A documentary-style fictional interview brings that personality into focus. Sitting at home, Aslak tells his story with the confidence of someone who assumes you already know his work. Fashion footage and personal memories connect his public image with the character behind it.
Cleo extends that world further, appearing in her own imagined campaigns for Prada, Gucci and Louis Vuitton. Her growing success introduces a little competition at home.
The Execution
The project combines concept development, character design, fashion art direction, AI-generated imagery, filmmaking and editing.
The central challenge was maintaining Aslak’s facial identity and distinctive anatomy across outfits, poses, environments and motion, while developing a consistent voice and personality. The result is a character who can carry a story across editorial photographs, campaign concepts, runway films and interviews.
